Webinair: Decorative painting and frescoes restoration in the Caribbean and Europe

03:00 pm - 05:30 pm @

Since the dawn of time, mural painting has told the story of mankind.

From cave paintings to Renaissance frescoes, Baroque, Art Nouveau and contemporary works, mural decoration has illustrated the lives of men and gods, dreams, power, ideals, and wealth, or created illusion by deceiving the eye of the beholder with imitation of materials and perspectives.

In constant dialogue with architecture, it has enriched our interior and exterior spaces, both private and urban, expressing our tastes and ambitions. The greatest artists have devoted themselves to this art form, as have anonymous artists. Decorative painting, which has a strong presence in Europe, is also part of the cultural heritage of Latin America, where artists have developed it using styles and techniques that reflect their own culture.Given the richness of Cuban and Caribbean colonial-built heritage, and considering the challenge of restoring and renewing it, the UNESCO Transcultura Programme, and Mad’in Europe join their efforts tin this online* workshop that gives the floor to European experienced professionals and teachers in decorative painting and Caribbean practitioners, opening a space of exchange between them. This workshop aims at highlighting the way knowhow and skills in decorative painting can both serve conservation and contemporary creation.  In either case practitioners will have to face the same challenges: training, sustainability goals, and economic issues.
